Earplugs for Drummers: Rehearsal & Gig Guide

Choosing earplugs for drums starts with three practical questions: do they fit, how do they affect the sound you hear, and will you keep them with your kit? This guide is for drummers preparing for rehearsals and gigs, with a simple routine to use before, during and after a session.

FREQOFF was founded by a drummer and grew from time spent behind the kit and around live music. Read the FREQOFF story.

What to look for in earplugs for drumming

A comfortable, secure fit

Check the size and fitting instructions before choosing a pair. FREQOFF earplugs come in one size; colour choices are different finishes, not different sizes. A one-size product will not fit every person equally. If a pair feels loose, slips out or causes discomfort, stop and resolve the fit before relying on it in a loud rehearsal.

A filter designed around music

FREQOFF uses a passive high-fidelity acoustic filter designed to reduce overall sound levels while keeping the listening experience more balanced. It does not need batteries or charging. The sound you hear will still change when you wear earplugs, so make them part of your soundcheck routine.

A rating you understand

FREQOFF carries a 24 dB SNR rating when used as directed. SNR is a standardized single-number rating, not a guarantee of exactly 24 dB reduction for every wearer. Actual attenuation depends on fit and use. A rating alone does not establish whether a rehearsal or gig is safe.

Before rehearsal: make a repeatable kit check

  1. Pack your earplugs with your essentials. Keep their case with the items you check before leaving, such as sticks and your drum key.
  2. Check condition and fit. Follow the supplied fitting instructions before the room gets loud. Leave time to deal with an uncomfortable or loose fit.
  3. Include protection in the soundcheck. Check the balance you need to hear while wearing your earplugs. Agree on practical stage or rehearsal levels with the band.
  4. Plan breaks. Identify a quieter place you can step into between sets or rehearsal blocks.

During the session: manage the whole sound environment

Earplugs are one part of hearing protection. The World Health Organization recommends using hearing protection in noisy places, moving away from loudspeakers and taking regular breaks from loud sound. Sound level, exposure time and how often you are exposed all matter.

If persistent ringing or hearing difficulties develop, seek advice from a hearing health professional. Read the WHO guidance on safe listening.

After rehearsal: get ready for the next session

Follow the supplied cleaning instructions, let your earplugs dry fully and return them to the case. FREQOFF earplugs are reusable and washable; keeping the pair and case together makes the next pre-gig check easier.

Choosing your FREQOFF pair

Black, Chrome, Gold and Pink share the same high-fidelity acoustic filter and stated 24 dB SNR rating. Choose your preferred finish rather than expecting different sound protection from a different colour.

A compact carry case is included. Earplugs ship from Cyprus. Delivery within Cyprus is free; earplug orders of €35 or more qualify for free shipping to Europe and the rest of the world.
